Content
This course will offer a general introduction to the Middle East. The introductory chapter will focus on geopolitical, economic and societal trends across the region and their impact on tourism.
The tourism and hospitality industry has become a strategic pillar of more diversified economies across the Middle East.The following sessions will zoom in on specific case studies or separate countries:
- The need for innovation and adaptability in established tourist destinations (Egypt, Turkey)
- Tourism in the Levant region: Lebanon - Syria - Jordan
- The rise of the United Arab Emirates: the story of Dubai
- Gulf countries: High-spending markets and the future of the hospitality industry
- Tourism in the Holy Land: Israel and Palestine
- Religious tourism in Iraq
- Saudi Arabia: Vision 2030 and the booming tourist industry
- Iran: from the old Persia to challenges in the modern-day Islamic Republic
